A Night of Flavor, Community, and Heart: Reflections From the 2025 Sangarita Showdown
There are nights that remind us why this work matters. And, for me, this year’s Sangarita Showdown was one of them.
On November 14, I watched nearly 400 guests fill Veterans Hall at the Manatee County Fairgrounds. The room buzzed with laughter, clinking glasses, and people embracing like old friends. At one point, I paused just to take it all in: the joy, the generosity, the sense of shared purpose. It felt like one giant Thanksgiving table, giving thanks to those who lift families up, just without the family disputes over cooking or cleanup!
Thanks to this incredible community, we raised more than $105,000 after expenses, doubling the impact of 2024 and setting a record in both attendance and funds raised. That support translates to more families receiving the tools they need to prevent crisis, strengthen relationships, and build safer, more nurturing homes.
Fifteen local restaurants gave it their all, offering creative sangrias, bold margaritas, and bites that sparked conversation at nearly every table. The winners this year were
- Best Sangria: Blackberry Red Sangria (Bonefish Grill)
- Best Margarita: Fins Up Margarita with Basil and Agave (Freckled Fin Irish Pub)
- Best Small Bite: Seared Ahi Tuna with Citrus Slaw and Wasabi (Riverhouse Waterfront Restaurant)
As I watched guests cast their votes, I couldn’t help but think of the families we serve, each tasting, each bid, each moment of connection helping pave the way for another parent to feel empowered, another child to feel safe.
Every two and a half minutes, a baby is born in our great state of Florida. Thanks to the kindness of our community, we are closer to securing the future of the next generation. Now, it’s time for action.
Our heartfelt thanks go to our partners who made this possible, including our Presenting Sponsor, the Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and our Premier Sponsors, Floridacentral Credit Union, Grande Aire Services, and LocaliQ/Herald-Tribune Media Group.
A very special thank you goes to Bob Slicker, of Slickers Eatery in Cortez, FL, for being our auctioneer. Bob’s energy, humor, and expertise helped make the evening even more memorable.
This wasn’t just a night of celebration. It was a statement of hope.
If you couldn’t join us this year but believe in the importance of family, please consider making a gift at ParentingMattersFL.org/Donate. Your support helps ensure that every child has the chance to thrive.
With gratitude,
