Community in Action
Stronger Together: How Collaboration Builds Safer Futures for Children
“Remember how scary it was to bring your baby home from the hospital?”
That’s how Genevieve Stults, Director of Prevention of Child Abuse Services at the National Exchange Club, described one of parenting’s most universal truths: no one does this alone.
It was a simple moment in our conversation, but one that perfectly captures the heart of our partnership with the National Exchange Club. Since 1979, they’ve made child abuse prevention their national project—and with 66 Exchange Centers in 25 states, their impact is anything but small.
Parenting Matters is proud to offer the Exchange Parent Aid Program, locally we call it the Parent Partner Program, but the foundation is the same: wraparound support for parents at all levels of risk, with one key goal—to strengthen families and prevent abuse before it happens.
What makes this partnership powerful isn’t just shared goals—it’s shared values. Values like compassion without judgment, prevention over punishment, and a deep belief in the potential of every parent to grow, thrive, and heal when they’re given the right tools and support.
During our recent conversation, Genevieve reminded us that while April is Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month, real change happens when communities stay involved all year long.
“Volunteer with a local organization. Help at a parenting class. Think about what you can do to give back,” she said.
It’s a call to action rooted in hope—and one we wholeheartedly echo.
As we look to the future, we’re excited by how other states, like New Jersey, are embracing this model and replicating its success. It reminds us that every act of partnership, no matter how small, adds up to a stronger, more connected system of care for families.
If you’ve ever wondered how partnerships make a difference, this is it.
A parent who feels supported instead of isolated. A child who grows up in a home where love outweighs stress. A community that shows up—together.
So much is possible when we collaborate!
Thank you to Genevieve and the National Exchange Club for leading the way—and for walking alongside us, every step of the journey.
