Trainings and services are plentiful for many families going through the adoptive process, but once the adoption is finalized, there are few services available. This episode’s guest is Teresa Alford, the service coordinator for Parenting Matters’ Chosen Families program for adoptive families.

Teresa helps families access a variety of services, such as counseling, education, and support needed for parents and children to develop and sustain safe, secure, and nurturing relationships for families formed from adoption.

She shares common challenges that adoptive parents face and why a different set of skills are often needed to overcome even typical family challenges. Stick around until they end when she shares a “mission moment” about a boy who turned to gardening after reuniting with his mother from foster care.
