Community Resources to Support Hurricane Milton Recovery

As our community comes together to recover from the impacts of Hurricane Milton, it can be difficult to find the resources you need, especially in the midst of stress and fatigue. To help, we have compiled a list of available services, though it is important to note that this is not a comprehensive list. Please always check the provided websites before traveling to any location, as availability of services may change.

Additionally, it’s important to acknowledge that disasters like Hurricane Milton can be traumatic for both parents and children. Our Parenting Educators are working closely with families to help build resiliency, which is crucial during times of crisis. By fostering positive family functioning and supporting parental coping, we can help mitigate the emotional toll disasters have on children and support their long-term development.

Why Resilience Matters While the effects of a natural disaster can be severe, there are ways to help children build resilience:

  • Strengthening school and home structures to prevent physical harm
  • Involving children in disaster preparedness and risk reduction
  • Supporting positive family functioning and parental coping

With these strategies, we can reduce the long-term effects of trauma on children and help them develop the resilience needed to thrive.
