A Longstanding Partnership: Joey Brannon and Axiom Strategic
Some partnerships grow slowly over time, built on trust, shared values, and a belief in the work being done. That’s certainly the case with Joey Brannon of Axiom Strategic and Parenting Matters.
Joey first became involved nearly two decades ago when former Executive Director Dave Potter invited him to join the board. At the time, Joey was running a tax and accounting firm that also provided consulting services to both nonprofits and businesses. He already served on several boards, but when a group of his business peers encouraged him to scale back his commitments, Parenting Matters was one of the organizations that stayed on the list.
“I was definitely on too many boards,” Joey laughs. “My peers told me I had to cut back to one. I begged them to let me keep two—and Parenting Matters made the cut.”
We’re grateful it did.
Joey went on to serve on the board and eventually as Board Chair. Even after his board service ended, his commitment to the organization never did. Through his company, Axiom Strategic, Joey has remained a dedicated supporter as one of Parenting Matters’ Compassionate Companies.
Why the Work Matters
Over the years, Joey’s understanding of Parenting Matters’ impact has grown not just through board service, but through personal experience.
After hearing more about the organization’s parenting education programs, Joey and his family participated in services themselves. That experience gave him a deeper appreciation for the approach Parenting Matters takes.
“One of the biggest things I realized,” Joey explains, “is that people often feel like they have to do parenting on their own. Years ago, families had neighbors close by, grandparents nearby, people who saw the good days and the hard days. That kind of community support isn’t as common anymore.”
Parenting Matters helps fill that gap.
Through in-home visits and coaching, Parenting Educators walk alongside parents—helping them identify goals, build skills, and navigate the challenges that come with raising children.
“You shouldn’t have to do it alone,” Joey says. “Having someone walk alongside you makes a huge difference.”
Giving Back Through Expertise
Joey’s support hasn’t only come through sponsorship. Over the years, he has also shared his professional expertise with the organization.
Five years ago, he helped guide Parenting Matters through a strategic planning process. This year, Joey and Axiom Strategic once again partnered with Parenting Matters to facilitate the development of a new strategic plan.
For Joey, the work is about helping organizations build habits that lead to long-term success.
“The planning is important,” he explains, “but execution is what really makes the difference. It’s about building the discipline to check in regularly, measure progress, and keep moving forward.”
He believes nonprofits can benefit from many of the same tools used in successful businesses.
“An organization is an organization,” Joey says. “Whether it’s for-profit or nonprofit, they’re both trying to change the world in some way.”
Compassionate Companies: Businesses Making a Difference
Joey and Axiom Strategic continue to support Parenting Matters through the Compassionate Company sponsorship program, which brings together businesses that believe strong families build strong communities.
These partnerships help ensure Parenting Matters can continue providing parenting education and support to families across our region—often at no cost to those who need it most.
For Joey, the decision to remain involved year after year is simple.
“We look at Parenting Matters as one of the most impactful things we’re able to contribute to,” he says.

A Shared Commitment to Community
Partnerships like this demonstrate the powerful role businesses can play in strengthening families and communities. When companies invest in organizations like Parenting Matters, they are investing in healthier families, stronger relationships, and brighter futures for children.
We are deeply grateful for Joey Brannon and Axiom Strategic—for their leadership, their expertise, and their continued commitment to helping families thrive.
