Finding Summer Magic

When I was a kid, summer felt like magic. No school, long days outside, and the freedom to explore, often on two wheels with no real destination. I grew up in a neighborhood where you could hop on your bike, meet up with friends, and ride to the local pizza place with pockets full of quarters for grape soda (or “pop”) and maybe a turn at Pac-Man or a song on the jukebox. Life was simple, and the days felt endless.

That carefree joy, of just being in the moment, is what summer always meant to me. And while those memories stay with us, it’s harder to recreate that feeling as adults. Most of us still have to work. Days blur together, and living in Florida, where the seasons tend to blend, summer can feel just like any other time of year.

That’s why it’s so important to carve out time, whatever that looks like for you, to slow down, recharge, and reconnect with what matters most.

This summer, my family was fortunate to take a special trip to Hawaii. Even more meaningful than the destination was who we were with, my brother, his wife, their kids, my dad and his girlfriend, and my aunt and uncle. Watching my son play with his cousins was the kind of joy that sticks with you. There’s something magical about cousins coming together, especially when they don’t see each other often. It was the first time in a long while that I didn’t think about work. I was fully present and soaking up every moment.

That kind of true disconnect is only possible because of the incredible team at Parenting Matters. I’m so grateful for our staff. Their commitment, professionalism, and care for the families we serve gave me peace of mind to step away and be present with my own. Knowing everything was in such capable hands made all the difference.

I know not every summer includes a big trip or a picture-perfect scene. But I truly believe we all need time to reset, to step away from the daily grind, and to find our own version of summer magic. Whether it’s a quiet morning with coffee, a backyard barbecue, or just a little extra time with your family, those moments are worth making space for.

I hope you find a few of those moments this summer. You deserve them.
