What’s this program about?

Musical Motion is a parent-preschooler learn & play group that encourages fun parent-child bonding while it builds early learning and literacy skills in children.
Musical Motion participants explore music, sign language, ABC’s, 123’s, and more. Sessions focus on creative activities to build preschoolers’ social skills and enhance brain development. Using puppets, parachutes and scarves, children learn about the Forty Developmental Assets, health, safety, and motor skill development – all while parents share information and tips with other parents and experienced Parenting Educators.

Who can participate?

Musical Motion is for parents/caregivers and their children ages 0-5.

How does it work?

This is a “drop-in” program that runs with the public school calendar. Parents can attend as many or few hour-long sessions as they wish. Each location limited to 15 families per session, on a first-come, first-serve, basis.
The session opens with free play and socialization where moms and kids can meet or reconnect. After a clean-up time (good skill for all kids to learn!), the group joins circle time where a parenting topic is introduced and discussed briefly. Story time is next where games and gestures are used to teach early learning concepts like rhyming, order, left to right and up and down. Music is combined with fun motor activities before children engage in a craft to “make and take” home. Many children participate completely or partly, depending on age and temperament. All children are welcomed and encouraged to develop social learning skills, but we also understand that some kids are “Watchers” and not “Doers.” Our educators are adept at getting all kids to engage in their own way, in their own time.

How much does it cost?

No pre-registration required. One time $10 enrollment fee for each series (this group runs in two series each year, fall and spring).

How will it benefit my family?

Parents, grandparents or other caregivers who don’t get to connect regularly with other adults have the opportunity to do so! There is always lots of chatter (adults and kids) at Musical Motion. All parenting topics discussed come with a take-home handout for later reflection. Parenting Educators are available to answer any questions.
Children whose parents engage in Musical Motion are exposed to social experiences (circle time, sharing, turn taking, game playing), early literacy skills (numbers, letter sounds, storytelling) and a variety of materials like musical instruments, play media (parachutes, kites) and books. Most importantly, you will have a chance to strengthen your bond with your child in a fun, meaningful way. In this busy world, it’s often difficult to stop and just enjoy each other. Musical Motion gives you a unique, fun opportunity to grow closer each week.
